Westbrook had a good game... Where were the Tribe bats?

Looking at the boxscore, Westbrook pitched a solid game.

He pitched 7.1 innings with 12 ground outs. It was Jake's day and he really had a good outing. And on a normal day, he would have gotten the win. But where were the Tribe bats?

Ok, we were pitching against JOHN DANKS. This kid, in only his second year, went 6-13 with an ERA hovering around 6! (5.5 to be exact). This isn't a Mark Buehrle. This isn't even a Johan Santana (Thank you, Mets, for taking him out of the AL Central. Although, we did have his number last year). This is JOHN DANKS. We should have had a field day on this kid. Yet, we had blown opportunity after blown opportunity.

For example, Kelly Shoppach (probably the most sought after and valuable backup catcher in baseball) in the 6th inning put down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Casey Blake over to 2nd which only made it one out. Did the Indians capitalize on this opportunity? No. Grady grounded out and then Michaels grounded out. (How long do we have to wait until we see Ben Francisco in an Indians uniform, Wedge? Michaels and Dellucci have made a few good plays in the field this series, but have not hit. I want to see the International League batting champ do some damage in a Tribe uniform, rather than a Bison uniform.)

Yet again, in the 7th, the Indians wasted another few golden chances to win the ballgame. After Garko doubled in Pronk, and Gutierrez reached on a two base error, with only one out, the Indians should have gotten at least one run. What happens? My man, Asdrubal, grounds out, then the Mighty Casey flies out. End of inning.

And in yet another dumb move by Wedge, he lets Westbrook start the 8th. Doesn't he know by now, that near the end of the game, particularly after a semi long inning, Westbrook gets tired and makes stupid mistakes like leaving his sinker hanging. Wouldn't he think it would be smart to bring in Raphy Bentancourt to preserve the tie? I don't care what Westbrook's pitch count is! If he doesn't have a perfect game going, you bring in Bentancourt to save the tie. Period.

This game was lost by missed opportunities and stupid coaching. Oh boy Wedge, you could have won this one! I blame this game on you. Westbrook pitched a hell of a game. And with that kind of game, one has to be hopeful about the year Westbrook might have.
